Personal Quality 1 ve Lale Mevsimi

Time Manager International’ın Personal Quality adlı kitabını gördüğümde alt başlığı beni çok etkilemişti :

PERSONAL QUALITY
The Basis of All Other Quality

Bunun üzerine kitabı okumak, hatta bir özetini hazırlamak istemiştim. Sizlerle bu özeti 7.bölüme ayırarak paylaşmak istiyorum. Bazen hepimizin bildiği, hatta uyguladığı şeyleri bile, belli bir akış içinde, tekrar görmek yararlı olabiliyor.

Yazımızı, ofisimize yakın, Göztepe 60. Yıl Parkı’nın laleleri ile süsleyeceğiz.

Personal Quality 1

Personal quality is crucial for self-esteem, which in turn determines your wellbeing, efficiency, attitudes and behavior.

There are two kinds of personal quality standards:

1. The ideal level,
2. The level of quality you are actually producing now.

How you can narrow the gap between what you actually do and what you would like to do and be proud of doing?

-The same quality can be perceived differently by the same person at different times, depending upon the situation and the person’s mood and needs.

-People will judge the quality of a product or service according to their needs in the given situation.

-People have different quality standards.

-People expect from other people depends on who the other people are.

-People expect from others is not always the same as the quality they expect from themselves.

-Your demands and expectations are crucial when you judge quality in a given situation.

-The human aspect of quality, i.e. to the attitude and behavior of the people. (...commitment, attention, credibility, consistency and loyalty)

-The most valuable resource is motivation. Because there can be a vast difference between what a person is capable of doing and what a person actually does. A person’s performance can fluctuate widely in different situations.

-Personal quality begins with the individual’s own standard for personal quality.

-The difference between the actual level of performance (AP) and the ideal level of performance is an indication of how much an individual can improve his personal quality.

-The factor which influences your AP level most is your self-esteem and it is determined by the recognition/reward you receive.

-Positive attention will almost always raise your AP level. How much this attention affects you depends upon:
  *who is paying attention
  *how the attention is given
*if you feel you deserve it

-Reprimands and criticism can also raise or lower your AP level, depending on how the criticism is given.

-Kinds of "strokes" (recognition and rewards):
*Physical Strokes - Attention by touching and physical contact
*Psychological Strokes - Any kind of attention without physical contact
*Ritual Strokes - Attention given in a specific situation or for a specific type of behavior
*Spontaneous Strokes - Attention given because of personal qualities

-Strokes can be positive or negative.

-Each time you receive positive or negative strokes, they’re registered in your brain in a kind of "bank account" with a debit side and a credit side. When balance is positive, AP level will be high.

-Knowing the goal: Your AP level will drop if overall goal is not completely clear.   You must be kept up-to-date on the results.

-Success/failure. It’s not uncommon that failure motivates people to make an extra effort to regain the respect of others and their own self-esteem.
